Mr and Mrs H. P. Horne have, returned to Woodville from a visjt to Christchurch. Rev. G. W. Davidson, vicar of Holy Trinity Church, Woodville, has returned from a visit to the South Island. Mrs A. Jaine, McLean Street, Woodvillo, has returned from a visit to the South Island. . Mrs H. Cox, of Gladstone Street, Woodville, who is one of the pioneers of the district, celebrated her 87th birthday yesterday. She enjoys the best of health and retains all her faculties.
An inspection of the Main Highways of tho Wooaville district was made this morn, ing by Messrs A. Tyndall, engineer to the Main Highways Board and A. Dinnie, district engineer for Hawke’s Bay, accompanied bv Mr W. J. Hawkes, engineer to the Woodvillo County Council. A Woodville bowling team visited Pahiatua on Friday, and succeeded in winning the Oxley Cup. The scores were as follow, Woodvilfe rinks being mentioned first: — Norman, MoCormack, Curry, Aim (skip) 25 v. Murphy E. Britland, F. Britland,, Paterson (skip), 15: James, Rawson, Grinlinton, Mules (skip) 17 v. Kershaw, Hodd, A, Biasett, W. Britland (skip) 14.—Woodville 44, Pahiatua 29. „ A team representing tho Woodville Tennis Club visited Aifredton during the week-end, and engaged’ in an inte'r-club match. Delightful woather conditions prevailed. The visitors were hospitably entertained by the members of the A'lfredton Club, and the games proved very enjoyable. The match resulted in a win for the home side by 163 games, 14 sets to 154 games, 10 6et«. The Woodvillo cricket eleven journeyed to Dannevirke on Saturday afternoon for the continuation of their match with the Old Boys’ team. Woodville in their first innings compiled 109 runs, while Old Boys’ first innings realised 262. Woodville were therefore faced with a formidable task, in scoring the necessary runs to avert just an innings defeat. Weather conditions were perfeot for the game, with the wicket playing fast. It soon became apparent, however, that tho match was to be an easy win for Old Boys. Against the bowling of Hewitt, who was sending down balls of deadly accuracy and maintaining a good length, the Woodvillo batsmen could do but little, no one succeeding in reaching doubles figures. The gamo ended in a win for Old Boys by an innings and 106 runs. As play hod only been in progress for an hour before the matoh finished, a practice match was engaged in-for the remainder of the afternoon.
