(From Our Own Correspondent.) SHANNON, Jan. 25. The .fire brigade held a very successful dance in the Druids’ Hall on Friday night, when there was a large attendance, including visitors from Foxton, Tokomaru and Palmerston North. Tho committee spared no effort to ensure the oomfort of their guests, and the duties of M.C. were capably carried out by Mr H. Hook. The music, whioh waa supplied by a Wellington orchestra, added much to the enjoyment. The brigade members aro endeavouring to raise sufficient money for uniforms and the proceeds of the dance should be very gratifying. Owing to counter attractions the pairs tourney to have. been hold on the local bowling green did not eventuato on Anniversary Day. To cncourago rink play in the club Mr C. P. Groy has donated four pins whioh can be challenged for by any rink, and it is hoped by this means to stimulate the interest., in this form of the game locally. Visitors to Shannon are Mr and Mrs IT. White, of Carterton; Mr W. Newton, of Stratford; and Rev. and Mrs Stewart, of ApitL Among those who have returned home from holidays lost woek are Mr and Mrs A. R. Blackwood and family, Mr and Mrs B. G. Tayler and family, Mrs B. J. Bronn and family (all from Waikanae); Mrs C. Todd and family, from Christcnurch; Mr and Mrs L. J. Mark and family, from Otaki Beaoh; Mr and Mrs Thurston, from Auckland. Nurse w,, ~‘ ’ snmH duties at the local school dental clinic.
