DEVIL’S ISLAND FUGITIVES.
FREED IN TRINIDAD.
The nine French fugitives who escaped from Devil’s Island, the French penal settlement, and landed on the lone coast of Trinidad after crossing 600 miles of open sea in a tiny boat recently, found themselves free men. * When they appeared in the Police Court an inspector announced that he had been instructed not to proceed further in the matter. The release was made by order of Governor Hollis. Salvation Army officials led them off to comfortable quatrers, and they will now probably join the peaceable, hard-work-ing little colony of past fugitives; who have made good citizens of the British Empire.
