THE WEATHER
The cyclone referred to in Saturday’s report is now advancing rapidly toward the Dominion and has intensified. Freshening winds, reaching gale force in places; north-easterly north of New Plymouth and Castlepoint ; elsewhere easterlies to southeasterlies; strong southerlies becoming general. Seas becoming rough generally in New Zealand waters. Strong wind to gale in the eastern Tasman Sea; northerly backing to southerly in the northern portion; easterly to southerly in the- southern portion; seas rough to heavy. Weather unsettled, cloudy and misty. There is a prospect of fairly general rain soon, with many heavy falls, especially in the North Island and the northern and eastern districts of the South Island. Temperatures warm at first but a cool change setting in. DISTRICT REPORT. COLDER CONDITIONS. The Government meteorologist wired to-day: The indications are for southerly, moderate and freshening winds. Expect dull weather with much mist and fog in parts. Rain is probable. The weather will probably become colder. The barometer is rising.
