Nominations for all events at the Manawatu Christmas meeting closo to-morrow night at nine o’clock; also forfeit of 1 sov., for tho 26th Palmerston North Stakes.

Wiltshire was raced in highweight company at Takapuna. Tho Day Comet —Lady Lobelia gelding found the pace too torrid and he was somo way back in tho running each day. Royal Doulton camo in for good support in the chief distance handicaps at tho Takapuna meeting. The Romeo—Tecoma maro failed to reach the firing line either day and her showings were disappointing.

A Christchurch writer states that Jaloux has only to continuo as ho is doing at present and ho will soon make up for the many disapointments of his early career; he is looking a picture. Ho will be one of Riccarton’s representatives in the Auckland Cup.

Tatyoon, who raced in minor company at Takapuna, is an Australian-bred three-year-old gelding by Trcclare —Sambong. while he did not share in the money, this member of J. Williamson’s stable at Ellershe ran sufficiently well to indicate he will reach useful form.

Nightmarch is reported to be going into work as soon as the stud season is over. He has been exercised regularly ever since he went to the stud in South Canterbury, so he should not take long to get into training form aftor being returned to A. AlcAulay. The question is will he stand up to another preparation. He was not by any means broken down when he took up stud duties, and McAulay is sanguino he will bo able to get more races out of him. T. H. Gillctt was duo to leave Riccarton for Woodville with Gustavo to-day. This horse will be Gillett’s solo representative at tho Woodville and Auckland meetings. H. Wiggins has been engaged to do tho riding. Gustavo has neen galloping a mile rogularly on working mornings at Riccarton, and has improved since the New Zealand Cup meeting. «

Tho president of the New Zealand Racing Conference would not bo likely to pass following names for horses, though they are the names under which several are racing in America at present. Wattahorso, What Have You, Bad News Bob, Bolloveitornot, Bloodlell, Byaninch, Dinah Did Upset, One Long Hop, Pass In Review, Scared o‘ Nothin’, Three Inarow, and Too Much Talk.

Hereinia opened his winning account in tho Tiri Highweight Handicap at Takapuna. Tho Lapidary—Blodwyn three-year-old gelding was always prominent on the nine furlongs and scored with something in reserve. Heremia is trained at Takanini by J. L. Gray for Air C. A. Boles, of Taumarunui.

Knight of Australia made a good showing in the Alelroso Handicap at Takapuna on Saturday and eventually finished third, comments “Whalcbono.” Ho was in consequence installed favourite for tho Vauxhall Handicap on Alonday, and, taking chargo when the top was reached, had no difficulty in scoring. Ho is by Windbag and is one of J. Gray’s team at Takanini, and now that he has got on the winning list further successes should come his way.

By finishing second in tho Alison Cup on tho first day at Takapuna and third in the St. Andrew’s Handicap on the second day, Prince Val kept up ins record for consistency. He carried solid imposts in each event, and despite the fact that ho failed to win a race his performances were excellent, more so as tho hard state of the going was not entirely in his favour. Tho Valkyrian gelding is in great heart at present and should do well during the holiday meetings. Whakapara was only started once at Takapuna, winning tho Stanley Handicap comfortably, thus registering his fourth successive victory, xnis form indicates that he is a bit above the average run of hacks racing at the present time, and his trainer should have no difficulty in winning more races with tho son of Kilbronoy and Adornment. Whakapara has always displayed speed since the beginning of his racing career, and now that ho has become solid his future prospects look particularly bright. Nothing further has transpired officially in connection with the Croupier casq. G. Holland, who now trains him, has advised the Racing Conference that the horsq is in his stable under instructions from Alessrs John and James Paterson. As the registered partnership has so far not been altered, and gives Mr Corry a 60 per cent, interest, it would appear doubtful if the Messrs Paterson can make use of their forcible possession of the horse (says an exchange). Unless they come to some agreement with Air Corry, the latter officially, is the only person who can nominate and race the golding.

Dibble, secretary to the club, furnishes the following particulars by way of reply. “A ten shilling bolting unit will bo available in both tho lawn and outside enclosures. At tho present time we are experimenting with our machine with a view to providing several £1 windows in the lawn enclosure. Tho arrangement is a temporary expedient which wo hope will obviate the necessity of a largo capital outlay and thus enable us to meet the requirements of our patrons in the present difficult times and also permit those who wish to do so to bet in £1 units. Our totalisator engineer is to be complimented on tho ingonuity and resourcefulness displayed in making tho required adjustments to the delicate and finely adjusted machinery of tho totalisator. If the experiment is successful, and tho present indications are that it will be, tho following units of investment will bo available in the respective enclosures: —Outside: 10s unit only; lawn: 10s unit, £1 unit, £2 10s unit.

“I would also mention that tho committee has decided to reduce tho entrance charge to tho lawn for gentlemen for this mooting from 12s to 10s for each person, which wo hope will also meet the convenience of our patrons from Wellington and elsewhere.”

Mr Walter Dupee, chairman of tho Board of Governors of the Jockey Club, is meeting Phar Lap on tho Hauraki at San Francisco in order to supervise his transfer to Alexico. Nominations for the Agua Caliente have closed, leaving Phar Lap among tho leading contenders for the rich purse, which is guaranteed to bring in 100,000 dollars to the winner, possibly more; the second horse will take 10,000 dollars, the third 5000, and the fourth 2500. The official entry list will not be published for several days, but it is understood the entries include many of the best thirty horses in tho United States.

If Phar Lap is sent to Alexico it will not be all plain sailing for the man in chargo of the wonder horse, writes “Khedive,” in the Melbourne Sporting Globe. Alen cnaged in the preparation of horses at Agua Caliente aro pronounced by Air Charles W'right to bo tho shrewdest and most resourceful trainers in the world. An Australian visitor could rely on cordial hospitality, but he would be seriously disadvantaged by unfamiliarity with local conditions, ho says, and lack of knowledge how to overcome difficulties.
