AUSTRALIAN CRICKET.

TEST MATCH AT BRISBANE. SOUTH AFRICANS BEATEN. BRISBANE, Dec. 3. The weather was cool and cloudy for the resumption of the first cricket Test match between Australia and South Africa. There was a good attendance. Overnight rain had made the wicket more dangerous than it was yesterday, and play was not resumed until 12.30 o’clock. It was immediately seen, that the position of South Africa was desperate. Bradman showed that he had thrown off his indisposition by throwing down Mitchell’s wickets. Ironmonger tied the batsmen up, and the side was soon out for 170. Morkel made three runs in 69 minutes. Ironmonger bowled 47 overs, 29 of which were maidens. Tlio innings lasted 366 minutes. Woodfull forced the South Africans to follow on. The wicket was changeable, but favoured the bowlers throughout. The South Africans were disposed to go for runs. Christy hit Ironmonger for a sixer and Cameron treated Urimmett similarly. Taylor again batted attractively, hitting seven fours and batting for 83 minutes. Wall bowled with excellent direction, but occasionally the ball was’ bumping badly. Ho bowled 15.1 overs, seven of which were maidens. Ironmonger’s figures for the match are 77 overs, 45 maidens, 86 runs, 9 wickets. South Africa in the second innings made 117, and Australia won by an innings and 163 runs.
