TREASURE HUNT.
ON A PACIFIC ISLAND. The London Evening Standard states that another expedition is to search for the £12.000,000 treasure buried at Cocos Island, in the Pacific Ocean, south of Panama, which must not be confused with the island on which the German cruiser Emden was destroyed. The leaders are four Englishmen —Sir Malcolm Campbell, tue famous racing motorist, Messrs K. L. Guinness. W. D. Allen, John De Forrest arid the American, “Boy” Scheftel. All have put in the same amount of money, and will share equally ‘n any treasure found. The expedition will start early in January, and the equipment includes a yacht and an aeroplane. The Government of Costa Rica has promised assistance, including an armed guard. The treasure is believed to have been bidden in 1822 by a pirate, aon Pedro Benito, who slew those of his crew who shared his secret. Benito later was hanged from the yard-arm of the British man-of-war Magician.
