NUMBER OF PEOPLE ROBBED. JERUSALEM, Nov. 29. The Scriptural man who went down from Jerusalem to Jericho and fell among thieves has many modern companions in misfortune owing to the prevalence of highway robberies, believed to be the work of escaped prisoners from the gaol at Amman.

At least 50 were robbed in a lonely spot yesterday. The brigands stopped eight motor cars and three motor buses, threatening the drivers with instant death unless tliev halted. They tore the rings off women’s fingers, menacing them with rifles and revolvers, and beat some of the male passengers with sticks. The sufferers include many prominent British residents, among whom is the daughter of the Anglican Bishop of Jerusalem. One American tourist was robbed of £IOO.
