ANGLING COMPETITION.

PALMERSTON NORTH CLUB. Members of the Palmerston North Anglers’ Club were engaged whipping the district streams yesterday in a competition for a trophy offered by Mr R. L. C. Aitchison for the best catch However, tho returns were in tlie majority of instances small, and only three members elected to weigh in at 9 p.m. The winner was Mr K. Thorburn, who whipped the Manawatu River between Aslihurst and Raukawa. His bag numbered 19 fish of a total weight of 21 lbs 5 ozs., but he actualy landed several under-sized specimens and had to return them to tho water. Next in order came Mr R. Cumbenvorth, who had spent the day on the Oroua Rover above the dam. His bag consisted of six fish of a total weight of 9 lbs 1 oz. Four of the six were taken with dry fly. Mr L. B. Jensen’s hag numbered four fair specimens weighing 7 lbs 10 oz. be having followed the Manawatu to the neighbourhood of Karere. It was the general opinion that, while ther were plenty of fish about, they are as yet hard to land.
