SHIPMENT OF COAL.
SUPPLIES THROUGH FOXTON. (From Our Own Cororspondcnt.) FOXTON, Aug. 18. Tho first shipment of coal to arrive at Foxton for some years by was brought by tho scow Kotiti from Westport on Sunday. Tho vessel had forty tons for the local gasworks and also a supply of household coal for Wellington. After discharging yesterday an attempt was mado to leave port, but this was prevented by tho westerly gale and tho vessel turned back before reaching tho bar. As a result of obtaining coal direct from Westport tho Foxton Borough Council will sayo 7s 6d por ton. By obtaining supplies via Wellington transhipment and railage charges have amounted to £2 8s 6d per ton. Tho cost of a direct shipment to F'oxton amounts to £2 0s 6d per ton, while cartage charges from the wharf to the works are cheaper as the coal is discharged from slings direct into lorries. Tho Kotiti is oxpccted back in Foxton with coal within fourteen days.
