(From Our Own Correspondent.) OTAKI, Aug. 17. Heavy rain fell yesterday and there was a decided fresh in tho river. There is still a lot of snow on the ranges and tho weathor is very cold. At a meeting of tho Otaki Racing Club on Saturday it was decided that tho next raco meeting bo held on October 10 and 12. Tho . recent floods in tho river havo done considerable damage to tho work recently carried out for protective purposes. A cyclo road raco on Saturday was won by Lawrence. The distance, Otaki to Ohau and back, was covered in 57 minutes, . Noble and McLeod tying for fastest time. Thero wcro 18 starters.
