SERVICE TO EX-SOLDIERS.
EXPRESSION OF GRATITUDE. In order to express their gratitude for the valuable part he had played in the activities of the R.S.A., particularly in respect to finding work for the unemployed members during the winter season, a deputation of beneficiaries under the scheme called en masse on Mr B. J. Jacobs, president of the local branch, yesterday and handed him a letter, couched in the following terms expressive of their appreciation, and which bore the signatures of some 25 members:—“We, the undersigned, welcome this opportunity of voicing our very sincere appreciation of the successful efforts of your good self in negotiating with the City Council and Unemployment Board to keep us employed. Your request that we ‘do a little more’ than what might have been expected in the performance of our duties has been faithfully carried out, and we are sure you will be glad to know that 24 members, on concluding kerbing and channelling work on Wednesday last, received the thanks and commendation of the City Council officials appointed to supervise them. We feel that the successful organisation of this branch of the New' Zealand Returned Soldiers’ Association is very largely due to the highly capable and conscientious wav in which you have fathered its interests over a long period of years, and we look forward with pleasure to your election as Dominion .president of the R.S.A., in which capacity we know you will ’bring further distinction and credit to tlxe association. W T e again assure your various committees of our fullest cooperation in every possible way.”
