PREMIERS’ SALARY BILL. THE STATE BANK. TIME LIMIT TO OFFER. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) Received July 24, 8.45 a.m. SYDNEY, July 24. Mr J. T. Lang’s Bill to reduce the higher public servants’ salaries to £SOO, which is being introduced on Tuesday, also covers Ministers, members of Parliament and Judges, but excludes the Governor’s salary 7. Mr Lang has been given until Saturday to accept or reject the Commonwealth Bank’s proposals for taking over the New South Wales Government Savings Bank.
SIGNIFICANT MOVE. NO TEAR GAS IMPORTATIONS. CANBERRA. July 23. Without giving any explanation for his action, the Minister of Customs, Mr F. M. Forde, has forbidden the importation into Australia of tear gas or any apparatus to be used with it. MEMBERS’ SALARIES. VOLUNTARY reduction. MELBOURNE, July 23. The members of the Victorian Legislative Assembly have agreed to reduce their own salaries from £SOO to £447 in tire case of country members, and to £397 in the case of metropolitan members.
