RELIEVING TEACHERS.
RESTRICTED UNEAIPLOY. AIENT. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, July 22. Replying to Air Vincent Ward in the House of Representatives to-day, Hon. H. Atmore said that in vieuv of the financial stringency it Yvas necessary to restrict to some extent the employment of relieving teachers, and until the financial position improved it would not be possible to employ them as freely as in the past. It was proposed to reduce somewhat the number of probationary teachers to he appointed next year on account of the number of unemployed teachers, but the effect of this Yvould not lie evident until 1936. The course of training occupied four years. The average number of teachers Yvlro retired from the service annually was knoivn, and each year the department had estimated as accurately as possible the number ■of teachers it Yvas necessary to train to make good the staff .wastage in the service . five years later.
