APPOINTAIENT OF REFEREES. WELLINGTON, July 23. The management committee of the AA’ellington Football Association last evening decided to ask the Ne\Y - Zealand Referees’ Association to alloiv it to nominate three referees, from Yvhom the Referees’ Association Yvould make the final selection, for matches for the F.A. trophy. The question arose on receipt of a letter from the New Zealand Referees’ Association stating that Air C. E. DoYvnes had been appointed to referee the Chatham Cup match between Petone and St. Andrew’s, Palmerston North, at Palmerston North. Air E. Watts Irad been appointed to referee the F.A. Trophy match betiveen Wellington and Otago at the Basin Reserve on August 1. Several member expressed the opinion that the committee should have some say in the selection of the referee in F.A. Trophy matches. Such games Yvere usually \’ery fast, and Yvanted a very active referee.
