TE KAWAU RUGBY SUB-UNION. (From Our Own Correspondent). SANDON, July 21. Competition games on Saturday resulted as follow: Senior.—Oroua Downs 0 v. Rongotea 0; Ilui Mai 9 v. Awahuri 3. Junior. —Awahuri 9 v. ilui Mai 0; Rongotea 15 v. Oroua Downs 3. The junior game played at Sanson provided an interesting contest, the lighter home team putting up a good solid defence against the heavy Awahuri team; The ground was in good order. Awahuri (red) opened play and K. George returned to touch. A free kick to blue sent play to the red twenty-five, but the red forwards sent the blues back to the centre. A free kick to red and Oribb found tlio line near the blue goal. K. George secured from the ruck and found touch well out. After a spell of even play, M. Cockburn put in a good run and found the line at the red twenty-five. An over eager blue kick ended in a force down. The red kick out was taken by Murphy, but ho was smothered and a good kick by Cribb found the line at the blue twentyfive. The rod. backs woro making the game open, but sound tackling met them. A free kick to blue enabled George to line at the centre. The blue forwards, playing well in the loose, took the,, ball to the red 25. M. Cockburn marked, but liis drop kick at goal brought no result. The red forwards again came away and the change ovfcr sounded with play at the blue 25. The blues reopened play and a passing rush by the red backs was stopped near the blue line. The reds pressed and a force down relieved the blues. A free kick to red for tripping saw Cribb raise the flags to put Awahuri three up. The reds were now playing an open game and Cribb was well stopped by Murphy. A free kick to blue and George found the lino at the centre. The reds returned to the attack, Georgo several times saving the blues. Half-time sounded with play at the blue 25. The reds opened the second half and commenced to attack. An exchange of passes by the Cribb brothers ended with W. Cribb getting over at the corner. The kick failed. Play was up and down for a time, the reds having the advantage. The change over sounded with play at the red 25. Soon after play reopened a free kick to reds wag of no uso for Cribb to goal. The blues got away and took play to the red 25, but weight was against them. A good run by Forbes gained ground, but no supports were available. The blues tried hard to cross, but the red defence was solid. Just before the end of the game, the red backs got away for W. Cribb to again get over at the corner; the final whistle sounded with the score nine to nil. Mr C. Sanson was in control of the game. The seniors, playing at Awahuri, had a fairly oven game. In the first spell both sides were below full strength and play was not taken very seriously. Ilui Mai scored towards the end of the spell. More life was infused into the game in the second spell, Hui Mai scoring two tries and the home side once. Mr A. Simeon had the whistle.

The school team took part in the Manawatu schools’ seven-aside tournament at Palmerston North and were successful in winning the Pirani Shield. Tho teams they met in the tournament were as follow Rangiotu 5 to nil, Oroua Downs 13 to 3 and Awahuri in the final 8 to 5. ' Saturday’s- senior games concluded the competition for the McKelvie Shield, the position of tho teams being as follows: P. W. D. L. Pts.

A meeting of representatives from the schools in this locality was held at the county office on Monday night. Mr H. J. Fagan presided, and tho schools were represented by Miss Bailey (Carnarvon), H. Ellery, D. Murray (Ohakea), T. S. Mason, A. G, Dear (WaitoKi), H, .V.

Bond, F. Tostevin, D. Sanson, E. Tunnicliffe, E. Davey and G. Francis (Sanson). Tho chairman explained the objects of tho meeting and said that it was the outcome of a representative meeting hold in Foilding. At the meeting ho had been appointd supervisor for tho group and with Mr A. G. Dear representatives on tho executive. It had been suggested that Mt. Biggs be included in tho group, but from an enquiry ho had made there was not much hopo of their joining, and he was in communication with tho Clydesdale School and thought they might join. It would bo necessary for each school to appoint its own supervisor and he suggested that prizes bo given by tho schools for their own competitors, as this would be an incentive to the children.

It was decided to cany on with the scheme. Mr G. T. Francis was elected hon. secretary. It was resolved that a levy be made on tho schools for tho expenses. Tho chairman said tliero was some difficulty in getting seed for potato growing and it was decided to grow mangels. Delegates present said tho children were keen and good competition is assured.
