INTER-SCHOOL GAMES

BASKETBALL AND RUGBY. Pupils of the Levin District High School visited Palmerston North yesterday afternoon to engage in return basketball and Rugby matches. The honours were even. BASKETBALL. The A teams- were as follow: Levin. —K. Jarvis, T. Fogden,; J. McKenzie, M. Coles, E. Freeman', L. Caldwell, M. McDonald, E. Caldwell, J. Bishop. Palmerston North.—N. Blundell, E. Wood, J. Clevely, J. Barrie, M. Marvin, J. Thomson, M. Hancock, H. Clinton. N. Offwood. The teams were very evenly matched and at half time the score was five all. Levin dominated play in the second spell, however, and won the honours by 11 goals to seven in a very fine game characterised by good passing. The scorers for the visitors were K. Jarvis, who netted seven of their goals, T. Fogden (2) and J. McKenzie (2). For Palmerston North, N. Blundell (2) E. M ood (4) and J. Clevely (1) netted. Mr L. G. Berry refereed. The B teams were as follow: Levin.—N. Thomson, C. Parker, S. Raskin, M. Wallace, Nf Park, L. Cameron, D. Stedman, J. Swensson, M. Udy. Palmerston North.—J. Hands, G. Palenski, E. O’Donnell, J. Winiata, J. Shaw, F. Jones, I. Kirkpatrick; P. Rodden, A. Barron. At half-time, the score was 10—4 in favour of the home team, who were undoubtedly superior to the visitors. Palmerston North continued to piie up points after the spell and won by 16 goals to 9. For Palmerston North the most frequent scorers were J. Hands, J. Winiata and E. O’Donnell,, while C. Parker, N. Thomson and S. Raskin were responsible for Levin’s goals. Miss G. Wischnewsky refereed. The visiting teams were in charge of Miss Milnes. FOOTBALL. In the football matches Levin A were successful by 15 points to 14 in a hard game. Up to the final whistle the result was in doubt and a high pitch of excitement was maintained. For Levin, Hammond, Coles and Royal scored, Royal converting each try. For Palmerston north, Heapy (2)', Davey and Duthie scored Duthie also converting a try. Mr Parker refereed. In the B game,” Manawatu had a runaway victory by 19 points to njl. The scorers were Carmont (two, both converted), Gilchrist (2) and Lashlie. Mr McCullock refereed.
