INDIA’S FUTURE.

FINANCIAL STABILITY. (British Official Wireless). RUGBY, July 1. The Prime Minister, in the House of Commons to-day, answered several questions in reference to his declaration last week of the British Government’s intention to support, if need be, the financial stability of India. He said that the purpose of the statement was to remove apprehensions pending a settlement of the constitutional problem and the formulation of provisions which would ensure the maintenance of India’s credit. No occasion for giving financial assistance to the Government of India had arisen, and he trusted and believed that no such occasion would arise. It it did, the consent of Parliament would, of course, be required, and opportunity would then be available to discuss the condition under which assistance could be given. - Asked if he would insist on preference to British goods being given, and a complete cessation ol the boycott as a condition of such financial support, the Prime Minister said that the Government had no intention of intcrfeiring with the fiscal convention, nor could they allow the credit of India, for which'they were themselves largely responsible,' to be mixed up with or made conditional upon any other subject on which they were negotiating independently. A TEN-HOUR DAY. DELHI, July 1. The charter for Indian labour contained in the report issued by the Roval Commission which has been investigating conditions in India recommends a 10-liour day.
