SERVICES OF EX-MAYOR.
PRESENTATION ARRANGED. At an enthusiastic meeting of citizens and representatives of many organisations, held recently, to consider and make arrangements for the suitable recognition of the valuable services of Mr A. J. Graham during the period in which he was Mayor of the city, committees were set up to make general arrangements. These were finalised at a committee meeting held last evening. Mr M. H. Oram (prei sident of the Chamber of Commerce) presided, and there were also present Mrs M. Aitchison, Sirs L. H. Collinson, Mrs M. H. Oram, and Messrs R. L. C. Aitchison, F. A. Cousins, B. J. Jacobs, K. G. Chamberlain, P. S. Larcomb, E. Low, G. C. Iveeble, W. H Barnard. H. E. Edmunds, W. H. Brown, L. T. Brown, W. Black, J. Purves and G. G. Hancox. Apologies for absence were received from Mrs Mansford and Messrs J. McLeod, J. Lewis and J. Hodgens. It was reported that the Manawatu and West Coast A. and P. Association would let the committee have a hall free of charge for the occasion, but when the question of providing supper was being discussed, and the necessity of an entrance charge to cover the cost, it was unanimously agreed that there should bo no charge for admission and that the committee should not go to any expense in the matter of catering. Mr Cousins suggested that if the function were held in the Opera House, instead of at the A. and P. Hall, the committee would be spared the trouble and expense of carting furniture. The suggestion was adopted and the chairman and Mr Cousins were deputed to wait on Mr F. Jackson, managing director of Palmerston Theatres, Ltd., for permission to use the Opera House. The public function was fixed for Wednesday, July 15, and His Worship the Mayor (Mr A. E. Mansford) is to be asked to preside. The enter-
tainment committee is arranging to have. an orchestra in attendance and for items by well-known local artists. The various organisations have re* sponded generously to the presentation fund, and it is hoped that the memento of the occasion will take tire form of a piece of plate, suitably inscribed.
