OBITUARY.
MR G. A. BURLING. The death of Mr G. A. Burling, late of Oroua Downs, which occurred at AVellington last Sunday and whoso funeral took place at the Otaki cemetery on Tuesday, removes one of the most highly respected settlers of the Manawatu district. The late Mr Burling was born at Featherston 69 years ago and married a namesake, Miss Mary Louisa Burling. At different periods he engaged in farming at Alfredton, Rekiorangi and latterly at Oroua Downs. Recently, together with his wife he decided to retire jII AVellington. He leaves a widow and four sons, Ernest George (Hastings), Norman Gilbert (Sydney), Lionel Arthur and Cyril (Oroua Downs) and four daughters, Mrs Gates (Oroua Downs), Mrs E. I. Pederson (Feilding), Mrs Osoorne (Glen Oroua), and Mis Shailer (Manawatu Heads). It is interesting to note that Mr Burling was a grandson of Mr G. A. Burling, who for years in the early and troublous times on this coast carried the mail on foot along the coast between AVellmgton and Av'anganui. The Burling family were among the pioneers who settled in the Wairarapa. Mr Bnrling’s grandfather arrived from England in Ah 6 shin London which arrived in AAellington, on March 22nd, 1840.
