Rev. T. H. Roseveare, of Papatoetoe, lias been appointed the first Moderator of the new Presbytery of South Auckland. The retirement on superannuation of Mr J. AV. R. Davidson, assistant chief engineer of railways, is announced. Mr Davidson has 33 years’ service. Inspector William Eccles has been promoted to the rank of superintendent, according to a notice in the Gazette. He is at present stationed at Hamilton. Dr. C. E. AV. Bean, Australian official war historian, has been awarded the Chesney Medal by the Council of the- Royal United Service Institution for his Official History of the AAar, states a cable message from Sydney. Mr AV. F. O’Donnell, secretary of the Auckland A. and P. Association, who has been visiting Palmerston North, for the National Dairy Show, returned north last evening. He is a former resident of Palmerston North and AVoodville. Squadron-Leader J. L. Findlay, M.C., officer commanding AVigram aerodrome, who was promoted a temporary squadron-leader when lie went to England for a course with the Royal Air Force, about three years ago, has been confirmed in rank. In congratulating Mr Wm. AVatson upon his appointment as chairman of “this great institution,” Sir Harold Beauchamp told the shareholders of the Bank of New Zealand at the annual meeting, to-day, that that Mr AVatson had been associated with the bank as a director since 1894, and liis elevation to the chair placed a coping stone to the long and honourable career he has had as a banker. “In fact, I think he may now be described as the doyen of the bankers of Australia and New Zealand,” said Sir Harold. “We have this year missed a very prominent triend in Mr AA r . J. Smith, of Palmerston North, who was at one time president and secretary of our association,” stated Mr J. Murray, secretary of the New Zealand Dairy Factory Managers’ Association, when speaking at the annual smoke concert of the Manawatu and AA'est Coast A. and P. Association last evening. He is laid aside with illness and we extend to him our deepest sympathy with the hope that his recovery will be rapid and that he will soon be among us again.”
