SOUTH AFRICAN BILL. “UNLAWFUL DETERMINATION OF PR ICES. TREMENDOUS STIR CAUSED. (United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) Received April 22, 11.0 a.m. CAPETOWN, April 2.1. A sequel to tho Budget was tho passing on of the extra duty on petrol of 3d per gallon to the consumer. One company has continued to sell at the former price, enabling the retailers to undercut. A boycott followed, and tho distributor company was compelled to comply. The Government retaliated by introducing a bill entitled: “Unlawful cleteimination of prices,” which prohibits refusal to supply petrol, and the fixation of price. A supplementary clause empowers the Government to extend provisions of the measure to other commodities.
The bill; has caused a tremendous stir.
