“CRUISES TO NOWHERE.”
THIRST-QUENCHING SERVICE. NEW YORK, April 16. Three day “cruises to nowhere.”— “barleycorning” cruises—up and down the heaving Atlantic are responsible for a great rate war among the shipping companies. The American Shipowners’ Association has sent a delegation to Congress to demand special taxation against British liners, which alone operate this special thirst-quenching service. The Aquitania, the Berengaria and the Mauretania are all scheduled for “nowhere trips,” but now the Red Star Line has announced that their Bergenland has been withdrawn from the trans-Atlantic in order to ply between New York and Halifax. The liner will have six beautiful bars and an outdoor swimming pool bordered by real sand from Ostend.
