At tho annual meeting of the Manaivatu Kennel Club last evening Mr J. Prentice was elected a life member.

Mr A. W. Hall, M.P., for Hauraki, who is in a private hospital in W ellington, was reported last night to oe in a very serious condition. He underwent an operation yesterday. Dr. T. Z. Koo, associate genial secretary of the Y.M.C.A. in C^ ina and vice-chairman of the VVorld student Christian Federation, is to visit New Zealand early next month. Mr Thomas Stagpoole, headmaster of the Ohinewai School, died this week, only a week after transferring from the Hobsonville School. He was born in 1868 and was educated at New Plymouth. He was in the teaching service for 40 years.

Mr John Chauncey Morris, who was seriously injured near Te Horo on Wednesday when his motor cycle skidded, and who died at Levin yesterday, was on the staff of the Post and telegraph Department at Eastbourne, Wellington, and was formerly employed at the Otaki Post Office. He was on leave at the time the accident occurred, the injured man being discovered on the roadside at about 12.0 u o’clock, when be was immediately taken to a private hospital atten " tion. Mr Morris was aged 26, and was not married. Prior to his departure from Samoa, Mr S. S. Allen, the retiring Administrator, was the guest at a farewell function at Apia at which were pie sent tho Faipules .and native chiefs. On the previous day Mr Allen was met by the membeis of the Administration and Estates services whose spokesman expressed regret at his departure, at the same time voicing gratification that during his term or office order and normal conditions had been restored in the territory He was presented with an inscribed sterling silver tray as a mark of the general esteem in which Mrs Allen and himself are held by the members of the two services.
