Dr Shiels, Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies, was asked in the House of Commons to-day about the present position in Palestine. Dr Shiels said that apart from an isolated incident, the Easter season, always a difficult time, had passed off quietlv. Replying to another question as to whether, since the publication of the Prime Minister's letter to Dr. \Yeizmann, president of the "World Zionist Organisation, the Government was in a position to get the Jews and Arabs together to discuss amicable arrangements, Dr Shiels indicated that the Government was taking steps with that object in view.
