TEAAI FOR TRENTHAAI. (By “Binocular.”) The copious rain experienced since Easter has left the tracks at Awapuni very heavy, but it has encouraged the lumping brigade to get busy. Mentors have, incidentally, reverted to winter hours. , . .. Local stables furnish 18 nominations for the Hawke’s Bay meeting at Irentham and some of the members were galloped this morning, the extreme outside- of the course proper being availAlerry Damon (Jones) and his halfbrother Alerry Alelodv (W. Broughton), both of whom are commencing to look more like their old selves, left a mile behind in 1.57 2-5, the first two furlongs being run in 28sec and five m 1.12. Llandudno (W. Broughton) had the measure of Keddar (L. Gray) at the end of six furlongs run in 1.23, the first half of the journey being left behind in. 40 4-ssec. Keddar is nevertheless moving more freely now that the sting is out of the ground. Neither Palm (Glynn) nor Glen Rossie (O. Gordon) appreciated the heavy going and they required 43 l-ssec for the first three furlongs and 1.26 2-5 for six furlongs. Wallaruli (Wilkinson) and Top Flier (W. Broughton) were sent oyer five furlongs, the last half mile being left behind in 57,4-ssec. Wallaruh is now an improved horse, while the Top Gallant youngster is very shapely. Valueless (Vincent), who is developing with racing, left the last three furlongs of a half mile task behind in 42sec while Brown Abbey (Robinson) and a Star Stream mare (S. Anderson) ran three furlongs together in the same time. , Blacksmith (A. McDonald) was under a hard pull throughout in a six furlong gallop with the ’chaser Birkbeck (Thomas) which occupied I.26sec. Birkbeck may be given a turn oyer the battens before the winter activities set THE JUMPERS. Spearopa (A. McDonald) and Star Girl (Stratton) negotiated a round of the hurdle fences quite attractively. The former is now jumping better in company. For the first occasion since competing at Alarton at New' Year time, Brilliant Light (Gordon) went alone over a round of the battens, jumping straight and fast. Unfortunately, the Australian Sun gelding will not put on condition. . . . Call a mart (Miles) was given his first insight into the art since his return from a spell, the Callaghan gelding fencing quite soundly. The handicapper Ims hardly encouraged him to make the trip to Trentham for the Hawke’s Bay meeting by giving him topweight of 10.11, even though the company cannot he termed strong. Alister Gamp (Aliles) took his first fence rather extravagantly and his front feet slipped on landing, hut he improved as he advanced and was still going full of steam at the end of a couple of rounds. The Bronzetti gelding enjoys the winter conditions and some stake money should come km way in the new season. GENERAL. L Wilson halted here on his return from Ellerslie with My Own, Si mb a and Jennv Diver. He will attend the Hawke’s Bay fixture prior to returning home , „ , L. Knapp lias reecived the Royal Stag gelding, Roval Black, and no doubt he will be put to the jumping game. Of good stamp he should prove a worthy addition to the stable. Airs AlcDonald took over the Callaghan mare, Gueress, after the Itangitikei meeting and this jumper is in the active ranks after having been treated to a spell. • r> The Tea Trav-Blackada filly m K. E Hatch’s care is again an active member of his string. This member of a well-known family lias already evinced tlia/t she possesses the fami y 6P E. d Penman, who has been tempor-
arilv resident here since February, purposes returning to his home quarters at Levin in the near future. In addition to Saltpot he will take un on iiis return an Acre youngster which he broke in twelve months ago. A report has gained ground to the effect th.it an appeal by H. N. Wiggins against his suspension had been dismissed by the AVanganui District Committee. Enquiry by the secretary of the Alanawatu Racing Club dis closed that no official appeal from Wiggins had been received or heard by that body.
