The general secretary reported that the opening gymnasium social, the opening function for this year’s activities, was certainly the best attended and most enjoyable gathering they had yet had to mark this event, well over two hundred members and friends being present. Air J. A. Grant presented badges and trophies won during the year, and briefly addressed members upon tlie necessity for increased membership. The 1931 season opened on Tuesday, 7th inst.. with the ladies’ class. Tho indications were that the active membership in all the classes would be well up to normal very shortly as enrolments were coming in freely. The business men’s class had in the past been meeting on Alonday and Thursday nights at 5.30 o’clock. This year the nights would be Tuesday and Thursday, as this would enable bank clerks to participate on the Tuesday instead of the Alonday as previously. The Optimist Club held its first meeting of the year on February 20, with a good attendance since, when it had met regularly every Friday for luncheon, followed by talks and singing. The members contributed £6 towards tlie Dominion Optimist appeal for earthquake relief. . The boys’ work report stated that all classes had re-commenced, the employed boys’ night having been changed to Alonday instead of Tuesday as previously, ” the primary boys meeting on Wednesday and the High School group on Friday. All are enthusiastic over the coming year and expectations are for a record year both in roll, strength and activities. The matter of young men as leaders for the various groups is at present under consideration, and it is shortly hoped to have a lull complement of leaders for these groups. Tlie clubs this year will be taking their talks Irom a scries of studies based on character-building lines.
