VOLCANIC SPECTACLE.
STEAM FROM NGAURUHOE
TALL BRANCHING COLUMN.
TAUPO, Feb. 19. Ngaurulioe provided a beautiful spectacle yesterday morning, a symmetrical column of steam rising several hundred feet above the summit for about two hours, and branching out in umbrella fdrm. There was no indication of explosive action, but the steady emission of steam seen against a cloudless Sky made a singularly attractive picture. A motorist recently on the Waiouru Road, who is familiar with the mountain, confirms the recent report that a considerable portion of the crater rim on the high eastern side has fallen, leaving a' semi-circular depression in the outline of the summit as viewed from that road. No unusual activity has been observed for a considerable time.
