EDUCATION BOARD.
PROGRESS OF SCHOOLS. At the monthly meeting of the Wanganui Education Board, Mr W. A. Collins was in the chair, there being also present: Messrs W. Adams, Hemingway, Tingey, Dukeson, Hornblow, Oram, Coleman and Woodruff. The Education Department advised of a grant for an additional class-room at Oroua Downs.
A request for the reopening of the Awahou South School was referred to the senior inspector. If his report is favourable, y the school is to be reopened. In his report the chairman stated : The Education Department has authorised a grant for the • erection of an additional class-room at Oroua Downs. The Health Department is sending an additional dental nurse to Palmerston North immediately. At the request of the Palmerston North Central Dental Clinic Committee, I approved of a clinic being temporarily established in the head teacher’s room at the now College Street School. The school committee and the headmaster offer no objection to this course. I authorised the installation in the room of a hot point, wash-basin, water and drainage. ARCHITECT’S REPORT.
Works completed:— Kopane.—A fuel shed has been erected. The whole of the buildings have been repainted. Works in' hand :—•
Western Rangitikei.—The school and out-buildings are being painted in two coats.
Upper Tutaenui.—The school, residence and out-buildings are being painted in two coats. College Street.—The drainage work at the new school site is now nearing completio®Earthquake.—The number of chimneys damaged by the earthquake is 21, and arrangements are in hand for the rebuilding of these in concrete (reinforced). Proposed for month : Earthquake Damage—To carry on with the necessary repairs. To make a general survey of all brick buildings the board’s district.
