ATTEMPTED INCENDIARISM.
DISCOVERY AT HASTINGS SCHOOL Per Press Association. NAPIER, Jan. 1. Evidences of a deliberate but unsuccessful attempt to burn down the Convent school, in Heretaunga Street, Hastings, were discovered this afternoon. Little damage was done to the building, which is old and built entirely of wood, and which is shortly to be replaced by a new building, toward the construction of which several thousand pounds have been collected. After the fire was extinguished it was discovered that someone had forced open a window and after pouring benzine or kerosene on the floor had thrown down a lighted match. A passer-by noticed the outbreak and gave the alarm. The brigade quelled the outbreak before any serious damage was done. The building is insured for £IOOO.
