HIGHLAND PIPE BAND.
At the annual general meeting of the Manawatu Highland Ripe Band there was a good attendance of the members. The report of the president was adopted as follows: —“From the standpoint of progress the affairs of the band have been more or less in a state of stagnation, very little work having been publicly undertaken in consequence of a depleted personnel and lack of engagements offering. This state of affairs cannot, in my opinion, be accredited to any individual member, or the band collectively, but rather to a public lack of interest and support. Several parades in connection with picnics and social entertainments were undertaken and successfully carried out locally, while the band also journeyed to Pahiatua and to Levin, also to Paeakkariki on voluntary engagements, besides holding open air parades locally. The most important of the latter were those in connection with the city celebrations, which went off with every satisfaction. In conclusion, I can only hope for better prospects in 1931 and that your activities and resources will be increased a hundred-fold.” It was reported to -be gratifying that the band is still in a very sound financial position, the credit balance being £36 17s sd, against £27 5s 9d last year. The income was £93 4s 5d and expenses totalled £56 7s. The following office-bearers were appointed:—Patron, Mr J. McKelvie; president, Mr J. Ellis; vice-presidents, Messrs C. Smith, J. B. Cooper, J.
