MOTOR-CYCLE CLUB

MEETING AT GIS'BORNE. Per Press Association. GISBORNE, Jan. 1. The annual meeting of the Gisborne Sports Motor Cycle Club was held at the Park racecourse to-day in hot weather. The track was fast and there was a good attendance. While P. Fletcher, of Auckland, was leading in the Poverty Bay lightweight championship he fell and sustained a fracture of the base of the skull and is now in Cook Hospital in a serious condition. In the same event, D. Smith, also of Auckland, fell and received concussion and was also taken to Cook Hospital, but his condition is not serious. Results of the principal events are as follow: Poverty Bav Lightweight Championship, eight laps.—K. Yeats (Auckland), 1; Tui Morgan (Greytown), 2; P. Fletcher (Auckland), 3. Time, 8.10 2^5. Te Hapara Open, six laps.—Tui Morgan. 1; 0. Lundius (Palmerston North), 2; D. K. Collison (Gisborne), 3. Time, 6.22. New Year .Open Handicap, ten laps. —P. Coleman, 1; A. L. Bunning (Whakatane), 2; 0. Lundius, 3. Time, 10.45. Ivaiti Open Handicap, seven laps.— Tui Morgan, 1; R. S. Pennial (Stratford), 2; A. Harker (Gisborne), 3. Time, 7.28 1-5. Consolation Handicap, five laps.—R. S.’Pennial, 1; 0. Lundius, 2; W. H. Begwood (Whakatane), 3. Time, 5.43 2-5. Jn a challenge match Lundius defeated Collison.
