Four hundred and twenty pits are idle in South AVales; only the safety tmen are on duty, keeping the mines ready for a resumption of work, but fcoal-getting continues at absut 50 pits. Good humour is general and pickets the mine entrances are cheery, ana ifclie miners generally expect that tne wint meeting between the owners an the trade union leaders on Saturaay nail find a .solution to the trouble. 'As one of the miners said: We are going to lose three days’ pay, which is more than w@ will lose in two months working on the terms if the federation had settled.” .
