PAHIATUA, Dec. 5. A poll was taken yesterday to fill the vacancy on the Pahiatua County Council created by the resignation of Mr H. S. Mason as representative of the. Kaitawa riding. There were two nominations, Messrs John Richard Nelson and Erie Whitcombe, the former being returned by a margin of 13 votes. In September last a drover’s dog was struck and killed outright by a car on the main road at Konini, and the sequel was heard yesterday in the Mayistrate’s Court when Norman Patrick Murphy claimed £25 damages from William James Stewart and Ivan Samuel Sargiv son. Decision was reserved. The monthly sitting of the Magistrate e Court was held yesterday, Mr J. Miller S.M., presiding. A young man, Gordon Cornford, was. charged that on November 19th, 1930, at Pahiatua. he was in charge of a car whilo in a state of intoxication. Accused was placed on probation for two years and prohibited from obtaining liquor. Several motor lorry owners were charged with failure to pay their heavy traffic license fees. In the case of the Pahidtua County Council v. Ceoil Berry, the Magistrate imposed a fine of £3. Thomas . Henry Hopcroft, a previous offender, who also pleaded guilty, was convicted and fined £5. On a similar charge Royal Henry ,Miles was fined £2. Robert Rankin was charged with driving a motor lorry at an excessive speed. Defendant was convicted and fined £4. Henry Dillon, for driving a car without being the owner of a motor driver’s license, was convicted and fined 30s. William Arthur Henry Skilton was convicted and fined 10s for failing to notify the change of ownership of a motor oycle. In a judgment summons case, William Brown v George Johnston, the amount involved was £l4 4b 6d. Judgment was obtained in July, being for seven months’ rent. The Magistrate made an order that 5s per week be paid off. In an undefended civil case, judgment for plaintiff by default was given as follows: Herbert’s Ford Motor Co., Ltd. v. Henry Tapeon, claim £3 15s 9d.
