REMARKS RESENTED. (From Our Own Correspondent.) FOXTON, Dec. 8. At the monthly meeting of the Lunch Club Mr D. Christie made reference to Mr W. Bromley’s remarks at a public meeting in Dunedin with regard to the state of affairs in Foxton. He said that Mr Bromley should bo' asked to withdraw his statement. Mr R. Edwards, of Palmerston North, endorsed Mr Christie’s remarks. The Mayor is -taking steps to have the statement refuted: Speaking since, Mr- Bromley confessed that he wa3 unable to see how his remarks came to be misintrepreted. “At the commencement of the meeting in Dunedin it was stated by the chairman that the City Council had reached its limit financially and could do no more. I pointed out that Dunedin was not by any means the most badly affected place in Mow Zealand and said that in my opinion the' place worst off was Foxton. I further stated that it was unlikely that they would get any advantage from the Unemployment Board’s offer, which was then under consideration. According to my advice, the reason for this was that no rates had been paid, nor had they even the means to pay storekeepers. My statement was not intended to reflect in any way on ho people at Foxton.”
