SWIMMING.
MEETING OF APOLLO CLUB. A general meeting of Apollo Swimming Club was held last evening, the president, Mr F. It. Lewis, occupying the chair. Mr Lewis announced that application had been made for the use of the Municipal Baths and it had been arranged that the Apollo Club should have the baths from 7 till 9 p.m. A programme of training was drawn up, provision being made for life-saving classes and classes for beginners who will receive instruction from the senior members. ■
In regard to life-saving it was decided that the services of a competent instructor be secured, but that an immediate start be made with the classes, instruction being given from the handbook. It is intended to have the classes completed by the end of January.
The swimming distances for each night are to be fixed by the committee and increased from time to time, it being hoped that by this means the club will be able to enter a strong team for the Levin Cup. The president reported that the Manawatu Centre of the N.Z.A.S.A. was endeavouring to arrange an interclub water polo competition. With a view to fostering the club spirit, it was decided to arrange excursions to the beaches and the Ballance Bridge during the summer months.
