MINERS’ VOTE.

STRIKE SPECTRE GONE. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, Dec. 4. The vote for peace was taken after the miners’ officials had pointed out the dangers of a national strike to the industry, the miners, and the country. Thereafter the conference reversed the recommendation it made last Friday that in the event of a stoppage in one district notices should be handed in throughout the country. Officials of the Miners’ Federation reported «on interviews with the Prime Minister and other Ministers regarding the operation of the new Mines Act in relation to the coal situation; and upon the recommendations of the National Industrial Board that in the South Wales and Scottish areas temporary arrangements should be made for working spread-over on the existing wages. It was stated that the Prime Minister gave similar advice, so that while work continued on such a basis the mines industry might have a chance to get the organisation changed and the new Mines Act working.

RESUMPTION OF WORK. NEGOTIATIONS TO FOLLOW. (British Official Wireless.) Received December 6, 10 a.m. RUGBY, Dec. 5. Following the decisions of the Miners’ Federation yesterday, the Scottish miners agreed to resume work on Monday. Negotiations with the owners will follow on the spread-over proposals.
