UNEMPLOYMENT RELIEF.

BOARD’S ALLOCATION OF SUBSIDIES. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Dec. 6. As a result of the Unemployment Board’s offer to local authorities of subsidies up to .a total of £25,000 on a basis of £2 for £1 as a special expediency measure for the relief of unemployment over the Christmas season a number of applications have been received. Up to yesterday the board had made allocations amounting to £19,356, which have been approved by the Finance Minister.

The board is only recommending subsidies on works carried out with money derived from other than Government sources.
