THE MAYORALTY.

POSSIBLE CANDIDATES. MR M. A. ELIOTT TO STAND. The announcement that lie intends to contest the Mayoralty of Palmerston North at the next municipal election was made to a “Standard” reporter to-day by Mr M. A. Eliott. Mr Eliott has been a member of the City Council (formerly the Borough Council) for twelve years and during the past four years he has been senior councillor. Mr A. E. Mansford, also a city councillor, when asked his intentions, stated that he had been approached to stand, but he would not, for business reasons, be able to arrive at a decision for several months.

A similar position exists with regard to Mr M. H. Oram, president of tlie Chamber of Commerce, who informed the “Standard” representative that though approached to contest the Mayoralty ho had not yet made a decision.
