BRITISH PREFERENTIAL TARIFF. Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Aug. 16. A close inquiry is to be made by the Government into the question of the percentage of British labour and materials used in the manufacture of articles imported under the British preferential tariff, according to a statement made by the Prime Minister this morning. ‘•“With regard to the preference that we now give to Canada, it is the intention of the Government to find out what proportion of the goods we import from that country is really Canadian, and how much is American. That is a matter that- will be looked into closely," Mr Forbes said.
