MANAWATU RACING CLUB.

FIFTIETH ANNUAL REPORT. A SATISFACTORY YEAR. The annual report of the Manawatu Racing Club to be presented at the meeting of members on the 25th states, inter alia: —The totalisator turnover for the year amounted to £171,124, showing a very satisfactory increase on the previous year of £17,093, this being attributed to the fine weather experienced at both our summer and autumn meetings. The income and expenditure account shows a credit for the year’s working of £2328 7s 2d,. and after writing off the sum of £2273 4s 9d, for depreciation tire balance of £55 2s 5d has been added to the accumulated funds. The tracks, buildings and other appointments of the club have been well maintained, and are in good order and repair. During the year the committee completed an agreement with the Manawatu Hunt Club, whereby this club takes over the totalisator license formerly held by the Hunt Club. The first meeting under the arrangement was held recently, the totalisator license for the 1929-30 season being used on July 31, 1930, and the license for the 1930-31 season on August 2, 1930, this making a two days’ fixture. Owing to the severe financial depression at present existing, the returns for the meeting were less than anticipated, and a loss on the meeting will bo shown.

The committee desire to thank the honorary officials and permanent staff for the efficient manner in which they have carried out their various duties. Tho committee records, with great regret, the death of the late Mr J. M. Johnston, who had been secretary of the club for 28 years. Mr Johnston’s services were of great benefit to the club, and he was responsible for the beautiful course and grounds we have at Awapuni to-day. Wo have also to record, with regret, the deaths during the year of the late Mr R. Stevens, a life member and for many years an official of the club, and Messrs G. Potts, F. Robinson and D. H.
