MANAWATU ASSOCIATION. “The number of affiliated clubs in the association, is now 16, with a total active membership of 966,” states the annual report of the Manawatu Lawn Tennis Association for the 1929-30 season. “During the season,” the report proceeds, ' “the applications for affiliation from the Bunnythorpe and Raukawa clubs were accepted, while it is hoped to affiliate some more of the country clubs during the tortiicoming season. The affiliated clubs and their playing members are as tollow: Ashhurst, 40; Bulls, 85; Bunnythorpe, 25; Feilding, 114; Foxton, to come; Levin, 72; Longburn, ■ 22; Manawatu, 105; Northern, 412; Otaki, 54; Palmerston North, 216; Rangiwabia, 16; Raukawa, 26: Terrace End, 79; Shannon and Takaro, both to come; total 966. “Fine weather prevailed for the Manawatu championships, which proved successful. Matches were played against the Wairarapa and Wanganui Associations, and for the first time in the association’s history, inter-club matches were inaugurated, resulting in a distinct success. The southern competition was won by the Levin Club, but this club went down to Palmerston North in the final by a small margin. The thanks of the association are duo to the Levin Club for arranging the match on its courts, while the association was also indebted to Messrs Yates (Palmerston North Club) and Worrall (Manawatu Club), who assisted in conducting these matches.

Astle (Palmerston North), Miss D. Haggitt (Palmerston North), Miss Cummerfieid (Feilding), Miss Litchfield (Terrace End), Miss Rutherford (Feilding), Miss Walker (Bulls), Mrs C. G. Moore (Palmerston North), Miss Hume (Palmerston North), Mrs Allen (Palmerston North), Miss Carty (Takaro), Miss Wapp (Palmerston North), Mrs Caidwell (Feilding), Mrs Robinson (Feilding). Miss J. Wilson (Bulls), Mrs Law (Bulls), Miss Innes (Palmerston North), Miss Worrall (Manawatu), Miss Tanner (Longbum), Miss McFarlane (Takaro), Miss Foster (Feilding).” The general statement shows that the association enters the new year with a credit balance of £lB Is sd. “The thanks of the association,” the report concludes, “are due to Mr R. H. Spencer for his services as auditor j to Messrs. Salmon, Atmore and Thompson, who were delegates to the N.Z.L.T.A.; to Messrs Thompson, McLauchlan and Watson, selectors; to Mrs Haggitt and lady assistants for services rendered during the W aiva-rapa-Wanganui matches; to Mr McMurray for the use of his premises for holding meetings and to the many friends of the association, wlvo directly assisted in its welfare.”
