Mr Clarice who was headmastpr of the Hamua School, took the evening service, when there was a large attendance of Presbyterians. After the service a social hour was nold in the Sunday school hall. Rev. A. F. Sutherland, minister of St. Paul’s, in bidding farewell to Mr and Mrs Clarice, mentioned that Mr Clarice had at all times been willing to help with the Church work. He had often taken services and was superintendent of the Sunday school at Hamua. They were very sorry to lose him and hoped that he would always remember his many friends in the Pahiatua district. Mr Clarico, who was greeted with applause, in reply, stated that he was, in many ways, sorry to bo leaving Pahiatua and the many friends he had made there. He was going back to his old job, that of farming. Qn behalf of Mrs Clarico and himself he thanked them all very much for gathering together to say goodbye, and trusted that if any of them were in the Bay of Plenty at any time they would give them a call. Supper was provided by xho ladies, an elocutionary item being given by Mr Clarice. The gathering concluded with tho singing of “God bo with you till we meet again” and the pronouncing of tho Benediction. Bolton (chairman)’ Fouhy, Bisset, Cornelius, Bryant, Champion, Whitta and Mason. A communication was received from tho district engineer of the Public Works Department to the effect that, although tho council had increased its estimates, it was quite probable that tho amount available would bo less than last year. Several councillors said that, as there would bo less reserve this year, the roads were bound to go back. As tho outcome it was decided, after considerable discussion, that all men engaged on removing points and widening on main and subsidiary highways be dismissed at the end of the month. An amendment that the men bo retained until the works are completed was lost by five votes to threo. On Saturday Pnhiatua. played Hamua flor the Gregorie Golf Cup, tho latter being the winners by six games to threo, two being halved.
