BUNNYTHORPE.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) BUNNYTHORPE, July 14. On Friday evening the football club held a most successful euchre and dance in the Public Hall, there being a good attendance. In the euchre tournament Mrs Wm. Andrew won tho ladies’ prize, <and a play-off between Mr G. R. Donald and his son, Murray Donald, resulted in the latter taking the gentlemen’s prize. The miniature rifle club fired a match with the R.S.A. Club on Friday evening at the Palmerston North range, resulting in both teams being defeated, the A team by 13 points and tho B team by seven points. Keen interest was taken in tho football match on the recreation ground on Saturday between Bunnythorpe juniors and High School. Much depended on this match for the local team if they were to retrieve their position in the competition, and after a fast and open game the Bunnythorpe team left the field with a well deserved win. School kicked off with the sun at their backs and some give and take play followed. Then Sutherland gathered in the ball to break through and passed to Eastwood who was brought down on the line. School forced Bunnythorpe back and a great run by Moxon carried play to the home team’s twenty-five. A penalty to Bunnythorpe relieved the home team who put plenty of dash into their play. A passing run by Jeffries and Godfrey resulted in the latter being thrown out at the corner. From a line-out the ball travelled across the field, then Mitchell picked up and threw himself over to score a good try which was not converted. Again School came well in the limelight to be followed by a good kick by Small, which put the Bunnythorpe team defending hard. They were relieved by a good line kick by Powell. Give and lake play followed and then Moxon for School ,’put in a good run. Tho Bunnythorpe forwards again carried all before them and then the ball came out to Gaurd, to Eastwood, to Sutherland, who scored a great try. The kick failed. Following even play from a scrum Evans obtained and passed to Oliver, to Durie, and carried play well into tho Bunnythorpe twenty-five. Later Evans again obtained possession and beat a number of the Bunnythorpe backs to pass to Calvert, who passed back to Evans, to score a good try. Following the kick out School carried all before them by a good dribbling rush, but Powell saved the home team by a good line kick to be followed by a good run by Durie. Again the Bunnythorpe forwards came to light and a pass from Gaurd to Eastwood resulted in the latter being held up on the line. Again School drove them back and again Thomas and Gore, for Bunnythorpe, carried play well into the School twenty-five. Then Evans sent Small and Waldegraye away, resulting in Bunnythorpe forcing. Soon after the first spell ended. The second spell started with School throwing the ball about in good style, and nearly scored on a number of occasions. From midfield Pinfold made a good run and passed to Eastwood, to Sutherland, who made a good opening to pass to Smith to score well out. Both teams were doing their best and ’a good line kick by Burgess relieved the position. Again the School backs got going, and only good defensive play on the part of the Bunnythorpe team kept them out. On one occasion School got over, but Evans w ; as held up resulting in a scrum. After a period of defensive play by the Bunnythorpe team, they carried all before them and Pinfold shot the ball to Jeffries and then to Sutherland, who scored. School, finding the home team tiring, made the game willing, but they were not able to score. With play at half way a good game ended with the scores: Bunnythorpe 12, High School 3. Mr Cooksley refereed. The third grade team suffered a heavy defeat against Old Boys in Palmerston North by a much heavier and more experienced team. The School Committee has received word that Mrs Robothom has been appointed assistant teacher at the school and will commence her duties at an early date. The local Golf Club sent a team to Kimbolton on Saturday, 12th inst, and after a enjoyable and good game were defeatod by a fair margin.
