THE HOSPITAL BOARD.
MONTHLY MEETING HELD. PATIENTS AND STAFF. The monthly meeting of the Palmerston North Hospital Board was held yesterday, Mr J. K. Hornblow presiding. Others present were Mrs L. A. Abraham, Messrs. J. A. Nash. M.P., W. Howell, D. Collis, M. A. Moody, J. Boyce, A. E. Mansford, R. L. C. Aitchison, S. A. Broadbelt, O. McElroy, V. E. Smith, G. P. Catley, \V. Greenhow and G. A. Monk. The medical superintendent (Dr. Ward) reported that during April 23 patients were admitted to the hospital. Some 237 had been discharged and 13 had died, leaving 180 remaining in the institution. Tho average number of occupied beds was 196. Infectious disease cases admitted during the month comprised five of. scarlet fever and eight diphtheria. Six scarlet fever and 14 dipntheria cases remained in isolation. Nineteen patients had been admitted to the maternity home during April, and 18 babies born. Twelve mothers and babies remained in the home at the end of the month. The matron (Miss McGhie) reported that the health of tho staff was satisfactory. Sister Harvey had commenced duty as night superintendent on May 3. Sister Burrell, after seven years’ service, wished to retire 011 superannuation as from May 17. Sisters V. Bright, C. Henderson, Ford and Wratten were recommended for increases in salary. Nurses Martin. Walter, Moy, Rhodes, Taylor, Baigent and Thurston had passed the hospital examination. Drs. Putnam and Bett had conducted the written portion and Dr. J. Miller the practical and oral. Donations had been received as follow: Mrs Pegden (books), Mrs Watson (old linen), Mrs Hall (children’s clothes), “Anonymous” (old linen).
