SATURDAY’S GAMES. Saturday :afternoon witnessed the continuation of the senior league competition, when players experienced their first taste of wintry conditions. The only game at North Street Park was the Athletic-R.S.A. fixture won by the former. St. Andrews and Rangers, who journeyed to Flock House and Feilding respectively, were rewarded with victory in each case.

ATHLETIC BEAT R.S.A. GAME ON GREASY FIELD. Athletic and R.S.A. met at North Street Park, when a greasy ground and a heavy ball made the play unimpressive. R.S.A., playing two men short, put up a stubborn defence and did not deserve such a margin of losing points. Hearsey was the outstanding player for Athletic. Johns scored U.S.A.’s only gont. The teams lined out as follow: R.S.A. (red and white).—Contour, Tucker, Morgan, Johns, Kempson, J. Gardner, J. Brown, Lovejoy, J. Crowe. (Two players short.) Athletic (black).—Goar, Askam A. Crowe, Travers, Hearsey, Beer, Rainforth, Booth, Watts, T. Crowe, Childs. Commencing at 3.20, Athletic set the game in motion by a short kick which was speedily returned. The ball was kept in mid-field until a shot by Hearsey gave Athletic the first goal. The ball, which had been transferred from Childs to Hearsey, was easily sent by the latter into the goal. Athletic 1, R.S.A. nil. Five minutes’ play had only been in progress at this time. A shot by Kempson, R.S.A.’s left-wing, following an attack, just failed to find the net, and tlie leather was returned to R.S.A.’s goal area, from where it was kicked out. Loose play followed without any appreciable gain to either side, but the game brigntened a little when Hearsey narrowly missed shooting a second goal -for Athletic. The ball bounced against a post and saved the situation for R.S.A. Good trapping and shooting by botii sides livened up the game, P. Childs, right wing for Athletic, proving useful in both spheres. On the left side, T. Crowe sent the leather to the ex-soldiers’ goal. Contour, in coming out to keep his charge intact, missed the ball which was rapidly netted by Watts. Athletic 2, R.S.A. nil. On the resumption of play, the leather was piloted to Athletic’s area, but Travers, centre half, removed the danger by shooting the ball down to R.S.A.’s goal area, reversing the position. T. Crowe had an unsuccessful shot, Contour saving brilliantly. The ex-soldiers now exhibited some energy and kept the Athletic men at bny for some five minutes but their forwards found difficulty in maintaining the defence. Following a throwin, in front of the stand, the leather was transferred to R.S.A.’s right wing where J. Crowe exhibited some pretty feinting and foot work. There was no further score at half-time. Immediately following the changeover (no spell being observed), R.S.A.’a goal was again besieged following a corner kick, but Contour cleared the ball, and the leather was piloted downfield. Athletic continued to press, but R.S.A. were adequately protecting their territory. Headwork by the forwards now became noticeable for the first time in the course of the game, and trapping added interest. Good fortune did not favour the ex-soldiers however, and Rainforth, inside right, shot another goal for Athletic in spite of the splendid effort by Contour to save. Almost immediately Watt shot another for the blacks. R.S.A. now played vigorously and Johns shot their first goal which was applauded by both teams. This was the first reward that the ex-soldiers’ forwards had for their efforts. Athletic 4, R.S.A. 1. A penalty kick by Travers (R.S.A.) soared over the bar, and the ball was again returned upfield to the vicinity ot R.S.A.’s goal. P. Childs essayed two attempts at goal, but was unsuccessful, the greasy ball hampering him. Soon afterwards Athletic’s goalie was called upon to protect his goal, but the leather eventually passed outside the goal-posts. On the ball being returned, play was centred in midfield where the forwards wero kept busy, being fairly evenly matched. Brown for R.S.A., displayed some effective footwork and was doubtless instrumental in keeping Athletic’s score down. No further score resulted before time sounded, the game concluding in Athletic’s favour by four goals to one. Mr Moxon refereed. ST. ANDREWS BEAT FLOCK HOUSE. A CLOSE GAME. The St. Andrews team traveled to Flock House where, after a remarkably close game they defented the home team by three goals to two. At half-time the scores were even, McSheffery and Ormond shooting for the visitors, while Randall and Goodall scored for Flock House. • Claridge added the winning goal for St. Andrew’s half-way through the second spell. The home team made several strong attempts to goal, but were not successful. RANGERS BEAT FEILDING. WELL CONTESTED GAME. The Rangers made the journey to Feilding and defeated the home team by six goals to one. At half-time the score stood at two to one, but the home team could not add any further goals, as they had to field some Rugby players to make up their eleven. In spite of the uneven scoring, the game was very close and well contested. Mr G. Pollock refereed. FIFTH GRADE POSTPONED. Owing to the school holidays necessitating the absence -of a number cf junior players, no fifth grade or pri, inary school fixtures wero played, but a scratch game was held among the juniors present.
