BANGKOK REACHED. MISS AMY JOHNSON’S SUCCESS. BAD WEATHER AT RANGOON. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.). Reeeived May 17, 9.35 a.m. BANGKOK, May 16. Miss Amy Johnson, the British aviatrix, arrived here at 5.45 p.m. to-day in the aeroplane Jason’s Quest. Miss Johnson left Rangoon at 10.30 o’clock yesterday morning. She made a test flight earlier in the morning, and it was very successful. There was heavy rain at the time of departure. The weather suddenly became worse after nine o’clock. THE RETURN JOURNEY. DANGEROUS - CONDITIONS. Received May 17, 11 a.m. LONDON, May 16. The Daily Mail’s correspondent at Rangoon states that Miss Johnson, before her departure for Bangkok, asked for information regarding the return journey. The daring British flier was strongly advised not to come north of Penang before October 15, owing to the dangerous conditions. Miss Johnson said later: “I have almost quite decided to sell the machine in Australia and • return by steamer.” CONGRATULATORY MESSAGES. OFFERS OF~MARRIAGE. Received May 17, 9.10 a.m. LONDON, May 16. The deluge of congratulatory letters that have reached Miss Johnson’s home at Hull include offers of marriage, but Mr Johnson says that no man lias any chance with his daughter while there is an aeroplane about. Miss Johnson is hoping to secure a post as an air mail pilot when she returns to England. DARWIN’S WELCOME. Received May 17. 11 a.m. CANBERRA, May 17. The Government resident at Darwin has been instructed to accord Miss Johnson a welcome on behalf of the Government. -
