The inquest on the body of Mr William Thomas (“Bunny”) Ayre, who was found dead on Wednesday, April 30th, atßieres,dencc of the father, Aotaki Street, Otaki and which was adjourned to. a o*n?fvld 0 * n ?f v ld contents of the stomach being analysed, was resumed at the Courthouse. Mr J. Brown, District Coroner, presided, while Constable Satherley represented t> ie P°’ ,ce - The Coroner found that deceased died from the effects of poison, but there was no evidence to show that lie was aware of the nature of what he had taken as there was nothing on the tin to show that it contained poison.” It was a small mustard tin. He concluded that be took the poison while alone. _ . The euchre party at Hautere was a great success. Prizes were won by Mrs Stewart and Mr Beauchamp, and consolation prizes by Mr and Mrs H. Jepson. In a case at the Otaki Court a horseowner stated that a horse could be taken to Sydney and back cheaper than to n aucanui and back. . . , Two lads, who made a nuisance of themselves at a recent dance at Te Horo, were severely reprimanded for their conduct by Mr J. L. Stout, S.M. At the annual meeting of the Otaki xi. and D.: Society Mr H. Cockrell (president) was in the chair. It was decided that the bulb show be held in September and the spring show in November. The following were elected officers for the year :-Patroness, Mrs Swabey (re-elected); president, Mr A. Wilson; vice-presidents Dr Atinore, Mrs McGill, Messrs H. Cockrell, J. P. Brandon, H. Witchell, H. Freeman, A \V Broadway, H. Small, D. W. Allen, G Bramley and Father Riordan; committee, Mesdames Atkinson, Whyte, Nicolson, Bailev, Blake, Bryant, Allan, Gillespie. Meyers, Miss Swabey, Messrs Allan, Bramley, Gillespie, Burgess, Reynolds, Looser, Morse, Lethbridge, Jenson; secretary, Rev. C. H. Isaacson (re-elected); auditor, Mr A. Wilson (re-elected); schedule revision committee, Messrs >Vitchell, Broadway; Bramley and Wilson. The local Bowling and Croquet Clubs closed the season on Wednesday in bright sunshine. There was a splendid attendance of players, and interesting games resulted. Visiting bowlers were present from Wellington, Palmerston North and Shannon. In a local rink. Booth, Bailey, Witchell and B. Brown (skip) defeated a Shannon quartette. Hyde, Baxter, Grey, Clayston (skip) 22-17. A very pleasant afternoon was spent on the Municipal Croquet Club’s lawn on Thursday, when tho club’s members and friends were entertained to afternoon tea by Mrs J. Gillespie. Mr Isaacson, in the absence of Dr Atmore, president, presented Mrs Kilmister, secretary of the club, with a set of afternoon tea plates and sandwich trays, and referred to the splendid work done during the season. Mrs Kilmister acknowledged her gift and thanked members for their support.
