TARGET FROM AIR.

RAID ON NEW YORK. THEORETICAL ATTACKS. Received May 10, 11.0 a.m. NEW YORK, May 9. New York city was a target for 131 bombing fighting ’planes to-day, when the United States Navy engaged in a theoretical raid to reveal how vulnerable New York is from the air. Huge triple-engined bombers, each capable of bearing tons of high explosives, lesser bombing ’planes and battle ’planes for the protection of these, and swift pursuit ’planes to drive off attacking enemy machines, participated over Times Square. Then the air armada swept southwards, carrying out theoretical attacks elsewhere on its way to berths aboard the aeroplane carriers Lexington, Langley and Saratoga, at Hampton Roads, Virgina.
