DRASTIC REDUCTIONS. HUGE CUT IN ESTIMATES. ADJUTANT’S ANNOUNCEMENT. (United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) Received May 10, 11 a.m. MELBOURNE, May 10. Drastic reductions in the units of the Australian Army are announced by the Adjutant - General, Major - General Dodds. The whole of the fifteen infantry brigades will be raised in future oil a basis of three battalions to a brigade, instead of four.

Nine battalions will cease to be maintained, and two Australian Light Horse regiments will be abandaned. These reductions are expected to contribute £25,000 of the cut of £500,000 which is to be made in the defence estimates for the next financial year.
